Feelin’ better

So at the beginning of this week the Peace Corps staff told us that historically the third week is really hard for volunteers and many of us may experience our first low point at some point during the week. Boy were they right!

Hi!

Hi!

My week started with me being physically sick which probably contributed to my crappy mood. I could not keep any food down and things like fish heads for breakfast did not help my cause (you really wanted to know about my throwing up didn’t you lol). It is getting really hot here and I miss my family and friends like crazy. I became increasingly frustrated this week with learning Thai and my lack of language skills. I also developed a weird irrational fear this week that not only was I having trouble with speaking Thai, but that I was forgetting how to speak English as well. Yep actually making up things to worry about now. P.S. I have not lost my ability to speak English…all is well.

After struggling all week I really felt like I was going to lose my shit this morning. Thank goodness I am here with some truly amazing people! They have heard me bitch all week and have been there to support me through all of it. We had an amazing day with our ajaans doing some cultural exchange and my friends and I also took the most well timed unscheduled field trip to the historic market here and my whole attitude got readjusted. These people inspire me everyday to be better, more confidant, remember that the little things we do for people are the big things, and to laugh through the craziness.

Here are some pictures from our adventure:

So I guess the point of my story is that things are getting better and I am shaking off those third week blues! I think week four will bring good things and if my conversation with my Meh just now, which consisted of actual give and take and a good percentage of understanding and being understood, is any indication this week will be awesome! Thanks to all those who supported me through this week and listened to my never-ending bitching. You are all the best.

Peace…until next time.

  1. Megs, we hope you are feeling better! Thailand is truly a beautiful place and your pictures are amazing-not to mention you definitely have a way with words!! You should write a book:) we love you so much!

  2. Ok, so I just got caught up. As I was finishing keeping up with the Kardashians came on (there is a point) and I was struck by the fact that you are doing something so amazing and inspiring that so few have a chance to even learn about, let alone do, while the rest of us sit at home and watch bad tv (not intentionally). It puts things into perspective. You inspire me. And I’d be lying if I didn’t mention that I’m a little jealous. So…what do chicken feet taste like? 😛 keep it up and sending love and prayers your way!

    • Thanks friend :). I miss you! I unintentionally end up watching Thai soap operas so that is the same no matter what side of the world you are on lol. Thanks for the support, it means a lot.
